What we do

Why we do what we do

OpenAd.net is built on a fierce belief that great ideas should see the light of day. It's a place where creatives and brands can be matched more directly, without middlemen to limit choice and without the restrictions imposed by status, corporate hierarchy, office politics and geographical location.

Our aim – to become the nerve centre of creative freedom for buyers and sellers of advertising, marketing and design ideas – is built on an understanding gained from having been buyers and sellers of ideas ourselves. This understanding has led us to spend considerable time and effort on issues concerning the protection of ideas and the transfer of ownership. We take the issue of copyright very seriously, which is why we operate a closed membership system for buyers, and why sellers cannot see each other's work.

OpenAd was founded by award-winning creative director Vital Verlic. He realised that great ideas often failed to see the light of day because they had no way of finding the right buyer. He began to think of ways in which creatives and brands could be matched more directly, to get the best out of good ideas.

In 2002 Verlic began to develop the OpenAd website. It had to meet the standards of the advertising and marketing industry, and had to be something that the industry felt it could work with and use, so an intensive period of design and testing began. Successive versions of the website were presented to key industry figures and potential partners across Europe; their feedback formed the basis for further development and refinement. Alongside this development came two years of work by lawyers expert in advertising and copyright law to provide the site with a legal framework that gives the best possible protection to all users of OpenAd.net.
